I hate the demonisation of Islam in the west. I'm an atheist, and I oppose organise religion, but I don't see Islam as any worse than Christianity. People act as though as Muslims are these extremists that want to "impose Sharia law" and make all women wear headscarfs. Nobody ever mentions the Golden Age of Islam, and how there are different denominations of Islam. Nobody ever talks about the fact that you're more likely to be killed by a pro-life Christian than a Muslim.

I am an atheist as well, but the amount of times I’ve found myself addressing ignorance on the topic of the Islamic religion is terrible. My roommate (mmmpasodoble) and I knew a rather stubborn individual that would basically listen to anyone that had anything negative to say about Islam… But never an actual Muslim trying to educate him. He believed in books other people made up and didn’t seem to understand the idea that Christianity has its dark bits, too.

He was… Interesting. But unfortunately all too common in this society.
