Oh, honey…

LOLOLOL GRRM HIMSELF CONFIRMED THEY WERE GAY LONG BEFORE THE HBO SERIES CAME OUT SO I’M SORRY ABOUT YOUR HOMOPHOBIA

No no, this is a totally valid reaction; you never know, this person could catch the gay through the TV screen.

there is a print of my hand all over my face which I like to call the ASOIAF fandom

At times like this, I seriously love GRRM and wonder how he views the sexist/homophobic factions of his fandom. Personally, I want to drink their Renly fanboy tears.

Speaking of season 3 casting for Game of Thrones. They start filming in the summer, meaning they’ll be casting during the show. You don’t want to know how much I’m anticipating and dreading the casting of Oberyn (and maybe? Doran, the Sand Snakes) and the subsequent shit storm that will follow. You don’t.

I think I’ll preemptively make myself a fancy t-shirt that says, “The Martells ain’t white,” and wear it to the pre-season 2 events where fans can see it.

ASOIAF fans I don’t get: those who don’t subscribe to R+L=J because it’s “too obvious”

SPOILERS

My question is: if it’s so obvious, why do most people not realize it until someone else points it out to them? For most fans, it’s only obvious after the fact, when you smack your head and feel dumb for not noticing because it makes so much goddamned sense. And a lot of these people saying “it’s too obvious” never realized it or thought about it until they read it online, either.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying they hope it’s not true, that they’d rather have something come out of left field, and I just think, why are you reading these books? Admittedly, there are a million things to love about the artistry that is GRRM’s writing, but if you would honestly rather shit come out of left field than be meticulously planned, crafted, and planted, I don’t see you caring much about those other aspects, either.

I mean, I’ve had people say they prefer the shit that comes out of left field, and I have to laugh because I wonder how many of those things were hinted at and theorized by the fandom, but they just never noticed. Some people guessed Bloodraven was the 3EC. Some people theorized that Ser Arlan never knighted Ser Duncan, and others never had a clue until GRRM confirmed it in an interview. For some people, both of those things “came out of left field”, and for others, it was just the confirmation of what they’d already figured out. Seriously, I’m discovering shit in forums all the time, and I’ve read the books minimum four times each, save ADWD.

If you don’t agree with R+L=J, cool, I’d love to hear the arguments, but I have yet to hear one stronger than R+L=J, and I have yet to hear an emphatic one that doesn’t include the words “it’s too obvious” :/

This is a boring text post about my anthropological thoughts on the Dothraki.

slythwolf:

After reblogging this with all its attendant srs bzns anthropology tags, I was thinking about the Dothraki all the way to choir. (Which was canceled because my prof is ill, so no I’m not skipping choir and/or posting from choir when I’m supposed to be singing, don’t worry.)

So this is the thing. I don’t thing GRRM thought much about anthropology when he was writing. Like, at all. I think he thought about history—I mean, I know he thought about European history, and I know he thought somewhat about medieval European culture, but the Dothraki he just kind of made up based on stereotypes about the Mongols with little regard for basic anthropology.
